The cast of Ramayana, including Ranbir Kapoor and Yash, recently travelled to San Diego Comic-Con to promote the film and interact with the media. During the conversation, Yash opened up about his preparation for playing Ravana and how it came with added pressure. The actor also revealed that he played loud Shiva music on set to stay immersed in the character’s mindset.
Yash reveals why he played loud music on Ramayana sets
On the Review Nation YouTube channel, the team of Ramayana spoke about the film. “I kind of spoiled the whole atmosphere on the set. I used to be very serious,” Yash said. Ranbir mentioned that while he had not yet shot scenes with Yash, everyone who had worked with the Kannada star told him that he would change the energy of the entire set with his music.
Explaining why he did it, Yash said, “I used to get big speakers and just play music at full volume. I used to be in that zone. I used to play Shiva songs. Ravana is a big devotee of Lord Shiva. I wanted to be in that trance. Forcefully, all of them would talk with a lot of difficulty because the music used to be so loud.”

Yash admits playing Ravana comes with extra pressure
Speaking about playing Ravana, Yash recalled how challenging it was because the character is already so well known. “As a kid, we have all heard this story. It’s probably the first story I ever heard. My grandfather used to tell me these stories. You have your own imagination, and you have seen so many people depict this character in different ways. So, what do you bring to it as an actor, and what is your understanding of the character? That was challenging.”
The actor admitted that portraying a character as well known as Ravana was very different from playing someone entirely new. “If you know the character and everybody is aware of it, then it becomes challenging. If it’s a new film where you are telling a new story, whatever you do becomes the character. But if people already have an image of it because so many people have played it in different ways, then it’s extra pressure for an actor.”
On the work front, Yash will next be seen in Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups. The film is all set to release in August.
