Shah Rukh Khan recalls saving THIS director from getting beaten up in Goa

In a throwback moment from Yaaron Ki Baarat with Ritiesh Deshmukh and Sajid Khan, Shah Rukh Khan fondly remembered working with Kundan Shah, crediting him as one of the most influential figures in his early career. He spoke about how the director’s grounded storytelling and unique sense of humour shaped his understanding of acting, especially during their time on Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. Shah Rukh had shared how Kundan Shah would get angry if the shot wasn`t done correctly. He would scold the actor irrespective of him or her being a veteran.

Shah Rukh Khan recalls an intense anecdote

Shah Rukh also shared anecdote about their shoot, he said, “I had once done 42 retakes, and instead of encouraging me, he was extremely agitated. He even ended up telling me `patthar se acting kara loon, tujhse behtar`. He was emotional and passionate about the shoot. He would be all intense on the shoot.” Both Shah Rukh and Tiku Talsania had recalled the petrol pump incident where the director scolded the pump employee for ruining the shot and getting beaten up.

Adding to this nostalgic memory, an anecdote shared by Tiku Talsania gives a glimpse into the chaotic yet memorable shoot of the film. Recalling an incident from Goa, Tiku revealed that things once spiralled out of control during filming. He said, “We were all running on the street,” describing how the entire crew, including actors and technicians, suddenly had to flee.

The chaos reportedly began when Kundan Shah got upset with a man repeatedly entering the frame and disrupting shots. After multiple interruptions, the filmmaker lost his temper and slapped the individual. What followed was completely unexpected the man turned out to be a local with influence, and soon a large crowd began chasing the crew.

Tiku Talsania also shared an anecdote

Tiku elaborated on the tense situation, explaining that the team had to literally run for safety as the crowd pursued them through the streets. Eventually, the matter was resolved only after apologies were made, allowing the shoot to resume normally. Despite the frightening turn of events, he remembered the experience as part of the unpredictable nature of filmmaking at the time.

This anecdote adds another layer to Shah Rukh Khan’s recollections of Kundan Shah not just as a brilliant filmmaker, but also as someone deeply passionate and intense about his craft. While SRK’s memories highlight the director’s creative influence, stories like these reflect the raw, unfiltered reality behind the making of a now-beloved classic.
