Some films have their own journey of finding an audience, and Sudhanshu Saria understands that. The National Award-winning director’s film Sanaa, starring Radhikka Madan, has been ready since late 2022, and even travelled to several festivals around the world. The drama, however, has yet to reach the Indian audience. That could change soon, Saria indicated to mid-day.
“I don’t want to be first. I don’t want to be fast. I want to get it right. So, we are working hard to find the perfect partner to get Sanaa to the screen,” he said, adding, “I want to make sure it’s presented to the audience in the correct way. It’s a relevant film, and we have screened it a handful of times in countries around the world. We are guarding the message.”
Saria is hopeful that the film, which revolves around mental health, lands a release this year. “We know there is a certain kind of film that the industry believes people want to see. Navigating that with a sensitive film is its own journey. If [the release] happens this year, fantastic. Otherwise, I’m in no rush,” he said, adding that he hasn’t zeroed down on whether it will be a theatrical or an OTT release.
