In a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Saif was asked whether projects become more exciting when they come from Shah Rukh Khan. Responding to the question, the actor shared an interesting anecdote from the early 2000s. “Yes, of course. He once called me for Main Hoon Na. He said there’s a great part,” Saif recalled.

The actor then went on to mention that filmmaker Farah Khan later contacted him regarding the project. “And then, Farah called me later and said, ‘No, no, no,’” he said while laughing.

He added, “I shouldn’t say these things, but I am too honest. This will get highlighted somewhere. But yes, Red Chillies is a wonderful production house; they pick really exciting and interesting ideas. It was very cool to get an offer like that.”

Reacting to this clip, fans assumed that Saif Ali Khan was offered Zayed Khan’s role. The 2004 film starred Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role alongside Sushmita Sen, Suniel Shetty, and Amrita Rao.

Saif Ali Khan and Shah Rukh Khan have co-starred in one major feature film, Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003). They also shared screen space in the cameo-heavy film Pehla Nasha (1993).

At the film’s trailer launch, Saif had praised the Pathaan actor and said, “Shah Rukh Khan is someone I look up to in many ways. He told me there was a lovely script that he wanted me to hear and read, so we went through the process of listening to it and meeting the director. Once the film was complete, he said it had turned out to be a lovely movie, and he was very happy with it. So that was pretty much it.”

Made under the direction of Pulkit, Kartavya also features Sanjay Mishra, Zakir Hussain, Manish Chaudhari, and Saurabh Dwivedi in key roles, among others. Kartavya premiered on Netflix on May 15 this year.
