Cannes 2026: Urvashi Rautela trolled for allegedly copying Gigi Hadid

Urvashi Rautela once again grabbed attention at the Cannes Film Festival, but this time for all the wrong reasons. The actor’s ivory-and-gold couture look sparked massive trolling online, with many claiming it closely resembled Gigi Hadid’s iconic NMACC gala appearance from 2023. Social media users and fashion watchdogs were quick to call out the similarities and mock her styling choices.

Did Urvashi Rautela copy Gigi Hadid?

The actress arrived at Cannes 2026 in an ivory-and-gold saree-inspired couture look featuring a heavily embellished blouse, intricate embroidery, and dramatic jewellery. She also carried what looked like a plastic flower pot on her arm. The internet was quick to note that the look was almost exactly similar to what supermodel Gigi Hadid wore to the NMACC (Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre) gala in 2023.

Within minutes of her appearance surfacing online, netizens brutally trolled the actress. Fashion watchdog page Diet Sabya blatantly criticised her fashion and wrote, “I say URVA, you say … sheeeee err … GIGI???” before joking that only Urvashi could “bring back Gandi Copy” through “fashion necromancy.” The post quickly went viral.

Even netizens didn’t hold back, as one wrote, “Did she think we wouldn’t notice?” “First Indian woman to copy Gigi and carry a gamla to Cannes,” joked another. Others questioned how closely the look resembled the original Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla styling, with comments like, “Can AJSK sue???”

About Urvashi Rautela’s Cannes 2026 journey

This appearance marks Urvashi Rautela’s fifth consecutive year at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. She has always grabbed attention for her dramatic and over-the-top styling. At the opening ceremony, when Urvashi made her appearance at the festival, which commenced on May 12, she shared a picture of herself dazzling in an ensemble by a Vietnamese designer.

The actress was dressed in an embellished gown with silver crystal embroidery, sheer detailing, and dramatic cape-style sleeves. She completed her look with heavily jewel-encrusted headgear and a clutch. The look reportedly cost Rs 1,500 crore.

Dressed in a striking gown adorned with pearl embellishments all over, Urvashi fully embraced high-drama red-carpet glamour in her second look.

On the acting front, Urvashi will next be seen in the second season of Inspector Avinash, which first aired in 2023 and is headlined by Randeep Hooda. The series revolves around the life of Avinash Mishra, who was brought in to stop crime in the state.
