About Everybody Loves Sohrab Handa
Directed by Rajat Kapoor, the film stands out for its tightly knit ensemble cast and its single-location setting, which lends the narrative an intimate, almost theatrical quality. The confined space heightens the tension, allowing each character’s emotions, motivations, and contradictions to reveal themselves gradually. True to Kapoor’s cinematic sensibilities, Everybody Loves Sohrab Handa is rooted in nuanced storytelling and layered human behaviour, where even silence and subtext speak volumes.
Packed with striking performances by award-winning actors like Vinay Pathak, Rajat Sharma, and Ranvir Shorey, among others, the film thrives on its razor-sharp writing and characters that feel unsettlingly real. Every interaction adds another layer to the mystery, making it impossible to trust anyone completely. The claustrophobic setting, coupled with mounting suspicion, ensures that viewers remain hooked as the investigation tightens and loyalties begin to crumble.
Rajat Kapoor on his directorial
Speaking about his directorial process, Rajat Kapoor shares, “My idea of making a film, and the fact that these actors are trusting enough to go along with it, is to avoid overthinking the character. You have a script that crafts the journey of each character, and then we build on it scene by scene. While performing, actors work within their character outlines and improvise to discover new aspects. Also, for a film like this, what was possible, and not normally doable, is that we shot it absolutely chronologically. The first day of the shoot was the cars on the road, the second day was the cars arriving and walking into the bungalow, and so on. I think that also helps actors a lot in building their graph.”
As many directors believe, this chronological approach adds authenticity to performances, allowing actors to organically evolve their emotional journeys alongside the narrative. In the case of Everybody Loves Sohrab Handa, the result is a tightly wound mystery where every character feels like a plausible suspect and every moment keeps the audience guessing.
