More than 11.14 lakh households in Maharashtra have successfully completed self-enumeration for the upcoming Census 2027 through the online facility provided by the government between May 1 and 15, officials told news agency PTI on Monday.
The self-enumeration facility was introduced as part of the House-Listing and Housing Census Operations for Census 2027. It enables citizens to fill in their details conveniently through a dedicated web portal at a time suitable to them.
During the notified period, as many as 12,60,950 households initiated the self-enumeration process, out of which 11,14,277 completed it successfully, according to a release issued by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Mumbai.
District-wise, Pune led with the highest number of households completing self-enumeration at 1,53,568, followed by Mumbai Suburban with 1,21,068, Thane with 1,16,512, Mumbai City with 61,295, and Nashik with 52,667. Other districts showing good participation included Nagpur (37,534), Amravati (36,223), Solapur (34,313), Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (34,242), and Jalgaon (31,802).
Households that have completed the online process are required to share their Self Enumeration ID (SE ID) — an 11-digit number beginning with the letter ‘H’ — with the official enumerator during the field visit. This will help in seamless completion of the data collection, officials stated. They have reassured that households which did not use the online facility or could not complete it need not worry. Enumerators will visit all households across the state for physical enumeration until June 14. Citizens have been urged to cooperate with enumerators and provide accurate information during the exercise.
The Election Commission of India announced the third phase of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls across 16 states and three Union Territories from June 30 to July 29. Maharashtra will play a key role in this massive exercise, with nearly 9.86 crore voters set to be verified through door-to-door visits.
Booth-level officers to conduct door-to-door verification of 9.86 crore voters
Booth-level officers will personally visit every household to verify the details of 9,86,44,413 registered voters in the state.
To ensure transparency, political parties have been encouraged to appoint booth-level agents to assist and supervise the process. The revision schedule has been aligned with the ongoing Census activities to make optimal use of field staff and machinery.
The detailed timeline includes training for booth-level officers from June 20 to 29, door-to-door verification from June 30 to July 29, publication of the draft electoral roll on August 5, a window for claims and objections till September 4, and release of the final electoral roll on October 7, news agency IANS reported.
The primary objective of this intensive revision is to create a “zero-error” voter list by removing duplicate entries, deleting names of deceased persons, and including newly eligible voters. This proactive approach is especially important in Maharashtra, given its high internal migration and rapid urbanisation, which often result in discrepancies in voter data.
